Kalyanaraman named 2011 Krieghbaum Under-40 Award recipient

Sri KalyanaramanAssociate professor Sriram “Sri” Kalyanaraman will be presented with the 2011 Hillier Krieghbaum Under-40 Award on Aug. 12 during the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication Conference in St. Louis.

The award was created in the early 1980s by the late Hillier Krieghbaum of New York University to honor an AEJMC faculty member who has made outstanding contributions in AEJMC’s three key areas: teaching, research and public service. It has become one of the highest honors that AEJMC can bestow on a member. Krieghbaum served as AEJMC president in 1972.

Kalyanaraman has established a national and international reputation as an authority on the psychosocial properties of digital media, especially as it relates to persuasion and attitude change in online environments. He also studies the social and marketing effects of sexual and violent content, and persuasion strategies in health communication.

Active in AEJMC as well as other associations, Kalyanaraman was head of the Communication Technology Division in 2005-06. He serves on the editorial board for several journals.
